Journalism Educator and Four-Time Emmy® Nominee Bringing Newsroom Practice to the Classroom
Constance Jones is a four-time Emmy®-nominated journalist who anchors NBC 6 News Today at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. from the station's Miramar studios, and also anchors NBC 6 News Now, the station's Peacock streaming morning newscast. Her career spans major television markets including New York City, Miami, Oklahoma City, and Atlanta. She returned home to Miami after nine years as an anchor and reporter at WPLG-TV and time at WLRN National Public Radio. Early in her career, she worked alongside veteran journalist Dan Rather at the CBS Evening News. Outside of television, Jones served as Communications Director for the 17th Judicial Circuit of Florida, working alongside the Broward State Attorney.
In 2025, Jones was selected as a RIAS Berlin Commission Fellow, participating in the prestigious international journalism exchange program, and was named a Finalist for the 2025 Florida News Awards in Sports Reporting. Her honors include recognition among Legacy Magazine's "Most Powerful and Influential Black Professionals" of 2023, the Lifetime of Leadership Award from Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida (2023), and joint honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists for her 2021 Surfside Condo Collapse coverage. She has also been recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Texas Associated Press, and multiple regional chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists for Excellence in News Reporting, and was named to Legacy Magazine's "Top 40 Under 40 Leaders of Tomorrow."
Jones holds a Master of Science in Global Strategic Communications from Florida International University (2026) and a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University, where she was named Most Outstanding Young Alumna in 2022. She serves as an adjunct professor at Barry University, teaching Radio & Television Reporting, and her documentary From Prison to Freedom was nominated for the Esserman-Knight Journalism Award. She is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Jones spent much of her childhood overseas, including time in Timisoara, Romania. She is married to Miami-based artist Troy Simmons.
